28. Burnt Bread and Chutney, Carmit Delman
I was excited to find this memoir of an Indian Jewish girl at Used Book Cafe, but I think I was too optimistic about the writing style of this author, because it kind of sucked. The material was certainly interesting - half-Indian, half-American, all Jewish, descended from the Bene Israel Jews of Mumbai. It was filled with a false (or at least trite) earnestness, so that the parts that could have been emotionally engaging were more like eye-rolling. But I did like when they all lived on the kibbutz!
